Rank Advancement

Following the Trail to First Class is the beginning of your scouting journey. You may work on any of the requirements of the first 4 ranks simultaneously. Use the checklists in your scout book and reach out to older scouts to guide you on your path. 

Rank Details

Your scout book is a greater resource, but this will be a good reference point to get you on your way. 

Scout Rank Requirements

Do these requirements with your patrol leader or an older scout, then get it signed off by an ASM: 

  • #1a/b/c/d/e/f, #2a/b/c/d 
  • #3a/b
  • #4a/b
  • #5

Do these requirements with your parents:

  • #6: With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent’s Guide, and earn the Cyber Chip Award for your grade.

Do the last one with your Scout Master:

  • #7: Since joining the troop and while working on Scout rank, participate in a Scoutmaster Conference.

Now Show Your Scout Handbook to the Advancement Registrar for Recording and Approval in Scoutbook.


Tenderfoot Rank Requirements

Do these requirements with your patrol leader or an older scout, then get it signed off by an ASM:

  • #3 a/b/c
  • #4 a/b/c/d
  • #5 b/c
  • #6 a/c
  • #7 a
  • #8

Do these on campouts or at other troop activities:

Complete this one by scheduling a Board of Review with the BOR Coordinator:

Eagle Rank Requirements

First, schedule a meeting with the Eagle Coach

The Eagle rank requires you to be active for at least 6 months as a life scout. Most of the requirements can be done on your own or with your troop or patrol. 

  • #2 Merit Badges
  • #3 Leadership

Next, Talk with the Eagle Coach about your Eagle Service Project

  • #4 Do Your Eagle Service Project

Next, Talk with the Eagle Coach about your Eagle Scout Rank application

Now do #1 Scout Spirit and #5 Scoutmaster Conference with your Scout Master.

Last, Do #6 Board of Review in a Separate Meeting Solely for that purpose. This will be scheduled with the Eagle Coordinator for the council. 

Celebrate with an Eagle Court of Honor!


Eagle Palms Requirements

  1. Be active in Scouts BSA for at least three months after becoming an Eagle Scout or after the last Palm was earned.
  2. Since earning the Eagle Scout Rank or your last Eagle Palm, demonstrate Scout Spirit by living the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Tell how you have done your duty to God and how you have lived the Scout Oath and Scout Law in your everyday life.
  3. Continue to set a satisfactory example of accepting responsibility or demonstrating leadership ability.
  4. Earn five additional Merit Badges beyond those required for Eagle Scout or last Palm.
  5. While an Eagle Scout, participate in a Scoutmaster Conference.
